Of the three national carriers, only AT&T and Verizon report coverage in Alaska, and across the state they report 4.2% and 3.1% of its area, as of December 31, 2025. Borough by borough, AT&T is clearly ahead in 2, Verizon in 0, and 19 are too close to call or thin from both.

T-Mobile reports no coverage of its own in Alaska, for the state or for any borough. And the combined figure for every carrier that reports coverage in Alaska, 8.6% of the state with 4G LTE, is higher than AT&T's or Verizon's alone: other carriers report coverage there too, and this site does not break them out.

A share of area counts every mile of tundra, mountain and glacier the same as a town, so in a state this size the figures are small for everyone. The borough table shows where each network is concentrated.

Every borough and census area

Each carrier's share of the borough's area where it reports 4G LTE or 5G to a phone outdoors, the area's water share, and AT&T against Verizon under the site's water rule. These are the 21 boroughs and census areas where at least one of the carriers this site tracks reports coverage; for the rest of Alaska none of them does. T-Mobile has no row in any of them, so it has no column here. The combined figure for every carrier is in the 5G table further down.

Shares of the area, water included. A carrier is named only when its lead over the other beats the water share by 5 points; "Low from both" means neither reaches 25% of the area. Share of area where each carrier reports 4G LTE or 5G to a phone outdoors, as of December 31, 2025. Reported coverage, not measured signal.

AT&T vs Verizon

Outdoors, AT&T is clearly ahead in 2 boroughs and census areas, Verizon in 0, and 19 are too close to call or thin from both. In a moving car, AT&T is ahead in 0, Verizon in 0, and 21 are too close to call or thin from both.

AT&T reports its own 4G LTE or 5G coverage over 4.2% of Alaska's area outdoors and 1.4% in a moving car, as of December 31, 2025. It reports some coverage in all 21 boroughs and census areas that have a row, and the most in Anchorage Municipality (32.6% of the area).

Verizon reports its own 4G LTE or 5G coverage over 3.1% of Alaska's area outdoors and 0.7% in a moving car, as of December 31, 2025. It reports some coverage in 16 of the 21 boroughs and census areas that have a row, and the most in Anchorage Municipality (46.4% of the area).

Where the most coverage is

Ranked by the stronger of AT&T and Verizon: Anchorage Municipality (Verizon 46.4%), Fairbanks North Star Borough (AT&T 31.3%), Kenai Peninsula Borough (Verizon 24.8%), Hoonah-Angoon Census Area (AT&T 20.9%) and Matanuska-Susitna Borough (Verizon 18.3%). In 19 of the 21, neither files outdoor coverage over as much as 25% of the area.

Where other carriers file more

In 4 boroughs and census areas the combined figure for every carrier is at least 5 points above AT&T's and Verizon's: Chugach Census Area (29% from any carrier), Haines Borough (13.6% from any carrier), Matanuska-Susitna Borough (24% from any carrier) and Nome Census Area (5.5% from any carrier). That gap is coverage reported by carriers other than the three national ones. If you live there, those carriers' own maps are worth a look.

In a moving car

Each carrier also reports a second map, for a phone in a moving vehicle. In Alaska it is a small fraction of the outdoor map for both carriers.

T-Mobile in Alaska

T-Mobile reports no coverage of its own network in Alaska. These figures describe each carrier's own network. They say nothing about roaming on another carrier's network, so they cannot tell you whether a T-Mobile phone will get a signal in Alaska. T-Mobile's own map is the place to check that.
